Hello Guys.
Just need a little advice/guidance here.
We have a customer with a VW Polo with intermittent electrical issues as wipers will work on their own/lights switching on/off without any input. We did not experience this fault while the vehicle was on our premises. We ran a diagnostic on the vehicle and could not find any conclusive fault so we asked the customer to use the vehicle till the problem worsened.
We get a call about a week later and the vehicle will not start and the dash will not light up, although the ignition is switched on so we asked the customer not to interfere with the vehicle. We make a call out +/- 25km to confirm the issue ourselves and check if we can locate a fault while the car is not operating sure enough the car electronics are dead. The battery is fully charged.
She gets her insurance to tow the vehicle to our premises upon further testing/checking wiring/water ingress, we found the central electronics module to be faulty. I borrowed a central electronics unit from another car and installed it and her car started up.
We quote for a new central electronics unit + labour + programming. Now this is the part where it gets interesting, her insurance company wants to take the vehicle away from us and give it to another shop to repair without paying us for our labour/time and doing all the leg work. It seems the other shop they are taking it too has seen our quote and to put it to simpler words, cutting prices as they know what needs to be done.
We refused to hand over the vehicle to the insurance company. Whats the best way forward here? What do you professionals do in a situation like this?
Regards.
